Take In Clothes – A Slimmer Fit on What You Own

Is a garment a touch too wide, or did you buy a size too big? We take in trousers, dresses, jackets, shirts and skirts at the sides and seams so the garment sits closer to the body. Order online, we pick up at home or work, take the garment in, and send it back with a cleaner fit.

We take in most garments

We take in most garments that have become too wide – trousers, dresses, jackets, shirts and skirts. The garment is taken in at the sides and seams so it follows the body better, without losing its cut. It's a common fix after weight loss, or when something was bought a size too big and you'd rather adjust what you have than buy new.

We work from the original seams

So the shape is preserved, we take the garment in from its original seams. That way the change looks like a natural part of the cut, not something added afterwards. How much a garment can be taken in depends on the seam allowance and how the garment is constructed – some pieces have plenty of margin, others less – so we adapt to the garment's fabric and cut.

A cleaner silhouette without losing the cut

The aim is a slimmer, cleaner silhouette where the garment sits where it should, while keeping its original look. Provide measurements or describe where the garment is too wide when you order, and we'll tailor the result to you. If only the waist needs changing, that can be done as a separate adjustment – see change the waist.

How to order

Choose the service and briefly tell us what the garment needs and where it's too wide when you order online. We pick the garment up at home or work, or you drop it at a service point or partner store – you choose the shipping method in your order. Once the garment is taken in, we send it back to you.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to take in a garment?+

The price depends on the garment and how involved the change is – taking in a simple seam costs less than a jacket with lining and several seams. You see the price before you order – see the full price list on our prices page.

How much can a garment be taken in?+

It depends on the seam allowance and how the garment is sewn. Some garments have plenty of margin in the seams and can be taken in a fair bit, others have less to work with. Describe how much you'd like to take in when you order, and we'll assess what's possible on your particular garment.

Does the garment keep its shape when taken in?+

Yes, that's the point. We work from the original seams so the cut is preserved and the change looks natural. The silhouette becomes slimmer, but the garment keeps its original look.

How do you know how much to take the garment in?+

You provide measurements or describe where the garment is too wide when you order, so the tailors can adjust it correctly. If you're unsure about measurements, describe what doesn't sit right and we'll help you from there.

Can you take in just the waist?+

If you only need to change the width at the waist, that's a separate adjustment – see change the waist. If the garment needs taking in at several points, we take the whole garment in for an overall fit.
