Cotton and jersey take more than silk, viscose and wool, which can shrink or lose their shape, and dresses with beading, sequins or pleats need extra care. Home washing or professional cleaning
A simple cotton or jersey dress can usually be gently washed at home following the care label. But delicate fabrics like silk, viscose and wool, dresses with embellishment or beading, structured or lined dresses and anything marked 'dry clean only' belong with a professional. Strong colours can bleed, embellishment can snag or detach, and linings and structured seams are hard to reshape once distorted in a domestic machine.
Stains, perspiration and storage
If the dress has a stain, it's best not to rub or wash it yourself – describe the stain when you order, and we'll treat it correctly for the type and fabric. Perspiration and deodorant residue under the arms is slightly acidic and can yellow and weaken fibres over time, and sugary or alcoholic spills can oxidise invisibly and brown weeks later – a common surprise on occasion dresses. If the dress will be stored over a season, we recommend cleaning it first, so invisible food and sweat residue doesn't set into a permanent stain or attract moths. It depends on the garment and any stain treatment. If you need the dress for a specific occasion, we recommend sending it in good time. You get a confirmation when we receive the garment and can follow the status of your order.
Can you hem or alter the dress at the same time?+
