• Your machine is too small for the coat to move freely.

Freshen the coat between cleans

A winter coat rarely needs a full clean – most only need a freshen-up along the way and a thorough clean when the season is over. Freshening the coat regularly keeps it clean longer and spares it unnecessary wear.

1. Hang the coat to air outdoors or in an airy room for a few hours to remove odour.
2. Brush off surface dirt, salt and lint with a soft clothes brush.
3. Quickly wipe the collar and cuffs, where skin oils and make-up collect, with a damp cloth.
4. Shake the coat gently so the down and fill spread evenly again.

How to spot-clean a stain safely

A fresh stain does not need a full wash – often it is enough to treat the stain itself. The key is to be gentle and test first, so you do not create a pale ring or spread the stain outwards.

1. Scrape or lift off any excess with a blunt knife or spoon before you add liquid.
2. Always test the cleaning agent on a hidden spot first, such as the inside of the waistband.
3. Dab – do not rub – with a clean, damp cloth and a little mild detergent, working inwards towards the middle of the stain.
4. Let the spot air-dry, and avoid adding heat until you know the stain is gone.
