Cleaning and conditioning leather
Smooth leather and suede/nubuck are cared for differently. Smooth leather is wiped down and conditioned to replace the oils the leather loses over time, keeping it supple. Suede and nubuck are cared for dry, with brushing rather than water. Leather should never go in a washing machine – it needs specialist handling so it doesn't dry out, stiffen or lose colour. Salt marks from winter
Norwegian winter road salt leaves white, alkaline tide-marks – saltrender – on leather. Wiping salt off promptly and re-conditioning helps, but if the salt has set deep or been left to sit, it's a job for a specialist. Send the jacket in and describe where the salt has settled, and it's assessed and treated through us.
Repair and proofing
Common leather repairs are tears, seams that need re-stitching and replacing a jacket zip. Send the jacket in and it's assessed and the repair handled through us. Proofing gives the leather water-resistant protection and is applied to a clean, dry item – which is why proofing comes after cleaning and conditioning.
